The Input Box
The input box is where you type to chat, enter chat commands, various actions,
or channel and nickname commands. It is located on your chat
screen and looks like this:
Your Nickname
In chat rooms, it is usually recommended that you use a "nickname" as
a safe alternative to using your real world name.
However, since this is a closed-community site for the South Side
Christian Church family, it is recommended that you use your
"real" first and last name (john_doe) as your nickname.
When you first begin using the chat server,
you will be expected to initially enter your nickname.
If you instead begin with a message,
you will be defaulted to a random "Guest" name
and may find that when you are greeted in the channel
you will be named "Hello" or "Hi"...
this is a very common mistake.
You will then need to change your nickname which
is very easy to do.
In the input box you would type the following:
Replace new-nickname with your first and last name (all lower case
with an underline separator is recommended).
For example, if you are John Doe, this is what you would enter:
Registering your Nickname
Why would you want to register your nickname?
So no one else can use it
when you are not on, this can lead to people
thinking that someone that uses your nickname
is actually you when it is not.
Example:
Let's say you are john_doe and you want to
register it so that no one else can use it.
You first need two things: a password that you
will use to know it's your nickname, and a valid
email address.
Ok, so you are going to register the nickname john_doe.
You have selected
a password, lets say the password is "glory".
Your email address is me@somewhere.com (although you have
to have a valid one).
In the input box you would type the following:
Once you have completed this, your nickname is registered.
Nick Kill Enforcing
You have one final option now. That is to activate an option
called "Nick Kill
Enforcing".
(Apologies to our Minister...we didn't choose the program
commands!)
What Nick Kill Enforcing does is force
anyone logging into the chat
who tries to use that nickname to identify the password
that goes with it.
Example:
If the nickname john_doe is registered, and someone tries to
use it, they have to know the password. They will have 60 seconds
to enter the password, or the server will forcefully change
their nickname to "Guest".
If you want to turn Nick Kill Enforcing on (it's not required),
you would do the following (after you have already registered
a nickname).
In the input box you would type the following:
Identifying a Nickname
So now you're wondering how do you identify that a nickname belongs
to you? It's easy, read on. When you log on the the chat server,
and the server asks for the password, you need to enter the password
(the one you used when you registered the nickname).
This is how you identify you are the registered owner of a
nickname:
In the input box you would type the following:
Remember! You put your password in there, the one you used when
you registered the
nickname.
LOL & BRB
LOL and BRB are shortcuts for sentences in chat.
LOL stands for "Laughing Out Loud" and BRB stands for
"Be Right Back". There are many of these, but there are a
few very common ones. These are the most commonly used:

brb

How to do Actions
So you want to know how to do actions? Not a problem, it's very easy.
All commands for actions are started with a /me
Example:
If you were wanting to do an action in the channel like waving.
In the input box you would type the following:
How to add Pictures to your Comments
