In These Days of Doubt and uncertainties, we at South Side Christian Church still have confidence that the Bible is the message of God. Surely, the God who created rational minds and made us able to communicate did so because He had something to say to us. Surely, the Creator is able to make Himself undestood. We have confidence, therefore, that all the church needs to know of God's will is expressed in His book, the Bible.

We Share the Concern of many regarding the fragmented nature of the church. We do not share, however, the expectation that the church will be healed by gathering it into a bigger and better denomination. This approach was exhaustively tried in the Middle Ages, and was rejected as unsatisfactory. Instead, we believe that the health of the church can be restored as each congregation of Christians opens itself to the will of Christ as it is recorded in the New Testament.

Our Policy, then, is to re-examine our beliefs and simply to ask ourselves: what does the Bible say? If the church is Christ's own assembly, and the Bible is His Book, His assembly should find its authoritative answers in His Book. The degree of unity the church already enjoys is the result of our present degree of common obedience to Him. Futher unity will come from further obedience.

We Welcome to our fellowship every person, regardless of previous affiliation, who will share with us this willingness to conform our lives and practices to the guidance of the Scriptures. What they say clearly, we agree to do. Where they do not clearly speak, we assume that God permits our own best judgment. We intend to love and trust each other in both situations.

This Adventure in getting back to original Christianity has led us to some practices which may seem novel to Christians more bound by tradition. It has led us to weekly observance of the Lord's Supper, to limiting baptism to those old enough to choose Christ for themselves, to the dramatic ancient symbolism of a baptism that is unmistakably a burial and resurrection with Christ, to congregational responsibility directly to God without middlemen, to abandonment of any differential between clergy and laity in favor of the priesthood of all Christians.

We believe That You will find, as a result, a fresh and vital kind of Christianity here. You will find also a vigorous church life with a well-rounded schedule for every age from crib to maturity comparing favorably with much larger congregations.

Come, Worship With Us and see for yourself if this should be your church, too.

And Thank You for taking the time to journey through our web site today.   We'd love to hear your comments:
